CONVINCED BEYOND EXCUSES
Posted on: Tue, Jan 23, 2018.

READING: Matthew 8:14-22

The gospel of convenience is very rampant now. Christianity is now wrongly made to appear a bed of all roses.  And that is not entirely correct.  In verses 19-22 of our text, we see Jesus speaking as if He was scaring away those intending to follow Him.  But that is not the case.  He was bringing the fact that anyone who sincerely wants to follow Him should burn the bridge behind him or her.

Jesus is not teaching us to sleep on the road in the name of following Him; nor is He teaching us to shun burial of our relations because we are following Him.  The message is clear: burn the bridge behind you and move on with Him.  Elisha had that spirit.  When he was called into the ministry, he burnt the bridge behind him and never looked back.  Lot’s wife came out of Sodom but Sodom did not come out of her.  She was attached to Sodom.  What are you still attached to that hinders your whole-hearted following of the Lord?  Do you still give excuses?  Make up your mind to be convinced beyond excuses in following Jesus.

PRAYER: Lord, I have decided to follow You – no turning back!
