The Problem
The windows are very dirty having accumulated grime and pollution from 82 years of exposure to the elements.
Each window is in dire need of repair and some pieces have started collapsing as a result of fatigue failure of the lead seals that have broken down due to age, as has the cement, which is meant to rigidly hold the glass to the lead. Consequently the glass sections are now bowing and collapsing and are liable to slip out of the H-shaped lead at any time. This has already happened to one of the triangular panels in the Chapter House. In other parts of the church, the lead is twisted and the glass is in jeopardy of falling out.
The windows on either side of the Cathedral entrance doors appear to have suffered some form of trauma judging by the way they are warped towards the base of the window and at the top right hand corners. The most likely explanation for this is probably the construction of the road in front of the church.
